Ready to compare Pennsylvania prices?

Enter your ZIP code to ask solar providers that serve your area for quotes. Compare each quote with the checklist below.

Solar providers that serve your area may contact you, and they pay EcoGen for the introduction. Providers can include installers, solar marketplaces and lead exchanges, and more than one may contact you. How we make money.

Need to know

17solar companies rated
5 / 5Solar Energy World (Top-rated)
  • We rated 17 Pennsylvania solar companies on licensing, warranties, local presence, track record and options. The top three: Solar Energy World (5, Top-rated), Exact Solar (5, Top-rated) and Trinity Solar (4.5, Excellent).
  • PECO, PPL, FirstEnergy and Duquesne Light credit each exported kWh at the full retail rate for home systems up to 50 kW, if you buy power from the utility. Credits left on May 31 are paid at the lower price to compare.
  • Pennsylvania has no statewide contractor or electrical license. A contractor doing $5,000 or more of home improvement work a year must register with the Attorney General (a PA number), and electrical licenses come from your town or city.

What solar costs in Pennsylvania

$2.87per watt installed
$23,706typical 8.26 kW system
$15,360 to $37,920for 6 kW to 12 kW

Sales tax reaches you inside the installer’s contract price, not as a separate line; the benchmark’s sources do not say whether it is included. There is no federal credit for systems you own and no state credit. The range is EcoGen's quote band of $2.56 to $3.16 per watt. Batteries and roof work cost extra. Compare each quote’s price per watt with these numbers.

Who qualifies, deadlines and sources: Pennsylvania solar incentives.

What to check with your utility

PECO

  • A $500 rebate, once per home, for a first solar system. The form must reach PECO within 90 days of in-service status.
  • Credits left on May 31 are paid at the price to compare, 11.759¢ per kWh through November 30, 2026.
  • Flex & Save pays $80 per kW per season for a supported battery. It is not open to homes on a time-of-use rate.

PPL Electric Utilities

  • Full retail credit if you buy power from PPL. PPL lists no rebate for solar panels.
  • Optimized Battery pays $150 per kW per season, up to $400 a season. It was enrolling Enphase and SolarEdge batteries only.
  • Credits left on May 31 are paid at PPL's price to compare, printed on your bill.

FirstEnergy Pennsylvania (Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power, West Penn Power)

  • Full retail credit if you buy power from FirstEnergy. Leftover credits on May 31 are paid at the price to compare.
  • Through November 30, 2026 that is 13.951¢ at Met-Ed, 13.142¢ at Penelec, 13.477¢ at Penn Power and 12.075¢ at West Penn Power.
  • A solar incentive was approved on March 12, 2026 but had not opened. Do not let a quote count it.

Duquesne Light

  • Full retail credit if you buy power from Duquesne Light. Credits left on May 31 are paid at its price to compare.
  • No solar rebate or battery payment was found. Ask Duquesne Light in writing before you sign.

Co-ops and borough utilities

  • The state net-metering rule does not cover them. Each sets its own credit for exported power.
  • Ask for the rate per exported kWh, whether credits roll over and what happens at year end, in writing.

Check the company and its warranty

Three names can appear in one solar deal: the company that sells, the company that signs the contract and the licensed people who do the work. Check that they fit together.

Before your first sales call, read questions to ask your solar installer and how to read a solar quote.

Compare your Pennsylvania quotes

Ask every company to quote the same basics. Then the differences you see are real.

The boxes are for your own use. Nothing is saved or sent.

From quote to permission to operate

Some steps overlap, and timing depends on your town, your utility and equipment supply. Ask each installer for a written schedule for your project.

  1. Proposal and site check

The installer looks at your roof, shading and electrical panel and gives you a written proposal.

    You and the installer
  2. Design and applications

After you sign, the installer finishes the design and applies to your utility for the connection.

    Installer; you sign the forms
  3. Permits and utility review

Your town or county reviews the building and electrical permits. The utility reviews the connection.

    Permit office and utility
  4. Installation and inspection

The crew installs the system. A licensed electrician connects it, and the inspector checks the work.

    Installer crew, electrician and inspector
  5. Permission to operate

The utility approves the system and updates your meter if needed. Turn the system on only after this step.

How we rate Pennsylvania solar companies

Each company gets up to 100 points from facts anyone can check: its own website and Pennsylvania’s public license records, read October 14, 2026. Facts a company does not publish earn no points. No company pays for its rating, and we do not use customer star reviews.

  • Licensing (30 points): an active state license, a licensed electrician and license numbers printed on its website.
  • Warranty protection (35 points): workmanship warranty length, roof-penetration coverage in writing and any production guarantee.
  • Local presence (15 points): an office in Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania named as a service area.
  • Track record (10 points): years installing solar.
  • Options (10 points): batteries and the number of ways to pay.

Stars: 85 points or more is 5 (Top-rated), 72 is 4.5 (Excellent), 60 is 4 (Very good), 45 is 3.5 (Good), below 45 is 3 (Average). We did not inspect installations, collect customer quotes or test customer service.

Pennsylvania solar company FAQs

How do I check a Pennsylvania solar installer?

Search the company on the Attorney General’s home improvement contractor search at hicsearch.attorneygeneral.gov. Contractors doing $5,000 or more of home improvement work a year must register, and the PA number belongs on your contract. Pennsylvania has no statewide electrical license, so ask which local electrical license covers your town.

Does Pennsylvania have net metering?

Yes. PECO, PPL, FirstEnergy and Duquesne Light must credit each exported kWh at the full retail rate for home systems up to 50 kW, if you buy power from the utility. Unused credits roll over each month, and credits left on May 31 are paid at the lower price to compare.

Is there a Pennsylvania solar tax credit or rebate?

There is no state tax credit and no statewide rebate. PECO pays a one-time $500 rebate for a new system if the form arrives within 90 days of in-service status. The federal homeowner credit ended for systems installed after December 31, 2025. SRECs add a small income that changes.

Do I pay sales tax on solar in Pennsylvania?

Yes, but inside the price. The 6% state sales tax applies with no exemption, and Philadelphia adds 2% and Allegheny County 1%. In an installed contract the installer pays it on the materials and equipment it installs, so it reaches you inside the contract price, not as a separate line.

Will the companies on this page contact me?

Not because they appear here. This page is an editorial comparison. If you request quotes, the providers that serve your area may contact you. They can include installers, marketplaces and lead exchanges. Our page on how we make money explains how EcoGen is paid.
