Why choose Lumina Solar, and why you might not
What Lumina does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.
Reasons to choose Lumina
It does your roof tooLumina puts in solar and also does roof work. Of the three alternatives below, only SunnyMac also does roofing.
Its Google score is the highest hereIts head-office Google listing shows 4.9 from 844 reviews. That is the highest score in the table below. Owners praise a hands-off process, from permits to getting turned on by the power company.
It shows its license numbersLumina prints a license number for every state it serves. We found its Maryland, Virginia and DC licenses active in September 2026. You can check each one with the state.
It does repairs and leak checksLumina also offers repairs, leak checks, and taking panels off and putting them back. That helps if your roof needs work later.
Reasons to look at others
Its lifetime warranty has no written termsLumina says Maryland purchases get a lifetime warranty, backed by its partner Fusion Solar Services. It publishes no written terms. SunnyMac lists 25 years on its own work. Get Lumina’s terms in writing.
No set warranty for roof leaksLumina lists no separate warranty for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Solar Energy World lists repairs of that damage. Ask who fixes a leak there, and for how long.
It names no equipment brands or lenderLumina describes its panels and inverters only in general terms. It names no brands, and no lender for its loan. Ask for the exact models and the loan terms in writing.
Some installs ran late or went wrongIts negative reviews describe an install that ran past its 150-day estimate and failed inspection twice. Others describe a burned wire and three dropped panels. Ask what its timeline depends on.
Lumina Solar reviews: what customers say
Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.
- Google4.9 / 5844 reviews · Baltimore, MD office listing only, not company-wideRead reviews
The five positive reviews below praise a fast, hands-off process covering design, permits, utility hookup and inspections, and neat installs by professional crews. The five negative reviews describe an install the reviewer says overran its 150-day estimate and failed inspection twice, a burned wire traced to installation, three panels dropped on install day, monitoring that fell short of promises and an unexpected repair bill. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Lumina what its completion timeline depends on.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (200 reviews read, back to Oct 8, 2024). We found no Trustpilot page for Lumina Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How we researched this profile
We read Lumina Solar’s own pages on October 13, 2026: homepage, why Lumina, service areas, residential solar, solar plans, lease, Maryland, energy services, FAQ and legal and licensing. On October 14, 2026 we read its FAQ, contact, press, solar loan and residential installation pages again, and its Maryland business record through OpenCorporates (the state site did not answer). The MD, VA, DC and NJ license results are from registry checks on September 8 and 9, 2026. We did not buy a system, request a quote, visit an office or interview customers. Lumina Solar did not review this page.
Our installer methodology explains what we check.
