  • The payback line leans on tax credits. Louisiana’s state credit is long gone and the federal residential credit ended December 2025.
  • Your roof is aging or under-engineered for wind. Re-roof and spec the attachment first; storm season does not grade on a curve.

Does Louisiana have net metering?

Not for new systems. Installations connected after December 31, 2019 buy power at retail and sell surplus at avoided cost, roughly 3.9¢/kWh at Entergy per the LPSC’s published schedule.

Systems connected before that date keep legacy retail netting, which makes the interconnection date a real asset on home resales.

Will my solar panels work during a hurricane outage?

Not by themselves. Grid-tied inverters shut down in an outage for line-worker safety, so panels without storage go dark with the neighborhood.

A battery (or battery-plus-generator) system keeps essential circuits running and recharges from the panels each day the grid stays down. That resilience is the strongest case for Louisiana solar.

Is solar worth it in Louisiana on bill savings alone?
