Request Delaware solar quotes
Ready to compare Delaware prices?
Enter your ZIP code to ask solar providers that serve your area for quotes. Compare each quote with the checklist below.
Solar providers that serve your area may contact you, and they pay EcoGen for the introduction. Providers can include installers, solar marketplaces and lead exchanges, and more than one may contact you. How we make money.
Need to know
- We rated 7 Delaware solar companies on licensing, warranties, local presence, track record and options. The top three: Trinity Solar (4, Very good), Clean Energy USA (3.5, Good) and Lumina Solar (3.5, Good).
- Every Delaware utility credits extra power 1-to-1 in kWh for home systems up to 25 kW. Unused credits now carry into the next year by law, and utilities have until December 1, 2026 to update billing. Delmarva's own tariff still forfeited leftover credits when we read it on October 16, 2026.
- Delaware has no home improvement license. Check the company’s Department of Labor contractor registration and its Division of Revenue license, and ask for the Delaware electrician who connects your system.
What solar costs in Delaware
No federal credit for systems you own finished after December 31, 2025. Delmarva customers who buy can get a state grant of $0.80 per watt, up to $10,000 and half the cost. Batteries and roof work cost extra. Compare each quote’s price per watt with these numbers.

Solar incentives, tax breaks and rebates in Delaware
- Net metering
- Extra power is credited 1-to-1 in kWh for home systems up to 25 kW (26 Del. C. § 1014). Unused credits now carry into the next year; utilities must update billing by December 1, 2026. Delmarva's own tariff still forfeited leftover credits when we read it on October 16, 2026.
- Delmarva Power grant
- $0.80 per watt, up to $10,000 and never more than 50% of project cost, for systems you own. You give up all of your SRECs and need pre-approval before installation.
- Co-op grant
- Delaware Electric Cooperative members get $0.70 per watt, up to $5,000 per address, first come, first served.
- Battery rebate
- Since August 11, 2026, Delmarva Power homes get $250 per kWh of battery size, up to $6,000 and never more than 50% of the battery cost.
- Newark grant
- $1.00 per watt for the first 5 kW and $0.50 above that, up to $3,500, with a waiting list. Dover says it has no solar incentive now.
- Lower incomes
- The Low- to Moderate-Income Solar Pilot gives a free system up to 4.0 kW to low-income homes and pays 70% of a system up to 6.0 kW for moderate-income homes.
- Solar loan
- Energize Delaware lends $5,000 to $50,000 at 3.9% for up to 15 years, for a system you own.
- SRECs
- Without a grant you keep your SRECs and can bid them in the SREC Delaware auction. In the last round, new Delaware systems won at $32.00 to $42.89 per SREC.
- Taxes
- No state solar tax credit and no sales tax. The federal homeowner credit ended for systems finished after December 31, 2025.

What to check with your utility
Delmarva Power
- Grant: get a home energy audit and pre-approval before the panels go up, and use a contractor on the program's list.
- Credits cover the per-kWh supply and delivery charges, not the fixed monthly customer charge.
- Battery rebate homes must join Delmarva's home-battery program for 10 years once it starts. Ask whether it has started.
Delaware Electric Cooperative
- Parts of its territory are closed to new solar that sends power to the grid. Check the map on its solar page before you sign.
- Its published rules still say unused credits expire each year. Ask whether it has made the carry-over change.
- Net metering is not available on a time-of-use plan.
Town utilities (Dover, Newark and others)
- Only Newark publishes a grant, up to $3,500 with a waiting list. Call before you install.
- Dover limits solar in some areas, handles applications in order and charges up to $200 for the two-way meter.
Check the company and its warranty
Three names can appear in one solar deal: the company that sells, the company that signs the contract and the licensed people who do the work. Check that they fit together.
- Contract company: look up its license on the Delaware Department of Labor contractor registration (Office of Contractor Registration) plus a Division of Revenue contractor business license. Delaware has no home improvement contractor license, and the Board of Electrical Examiners licenses electricians as individuals, not companies.. The name must match your contract.
- Electrical connection: Delaware law defines master and limited electricians as the people licensed to perform or supervise wiring for lighting, heating or power, and anyone else doing that work is an unlicensed practitioner (24 Del. C. § 1402: https://delcode.delaware.gov/title24/c014/sc01/index.html). Ask who does it.
- Warranty documents: ask for the workmanship warranty, the roof coverage terms and each equipment warranty before you sign.
Before your first sales call, read questions to ask your solar installer and how to read a solar quote.
Compare your Delaware quotes
Ask every company to quote the same basics. Then the differences you see are real.
From quote to permission to operate
Some steps overlap, and timing depends on your town, your utility and equipment supply. Ask each installer for a written schedule for your project.
Proposal and site check
The installer looks at your roof, shading and electrical panel and gives you a written proposal.
You and the installerDesign and applications
After you sign, the installer finishes the design and applies to your utility for the connection.
Installer; you sign the formsPermits and utility review
Your town or county reviews the building and electrical permits. The utility reviews the connection.
Permit office and utilityInstallation and inspection
The crew installs the system. A licensed electrician connects it, and the inspector checks the work.
Installer crew, electrician and inspectorPermission to operate
The utility approves the system and updates your meter if needed. Turn the system on only after this step.

How we rate Delaware solar companies
Each company gets up to 100 points from facts anyone can check: its own website and Delaware’s public license records, read October 14, 2026. Facts a company does not publish earn no points. No company pays for its rating, and we do not use customer star reviews.
- Licensing (30 points): an active state license, a licensed electrician and license numbers printed on its website.
- Warranty protection (35 points): workmanship warranty length, roof-penetration coverage in writing and any production guarantee.
- Local presence (15 points): an office in Delaware and Delaware named as a service area.
- Track record (10 points): years installing solar.
- Options (10 points): batteries and the number of ways to pay.
Stars: 85 points or more is 5 (Top-rated), 72 is 4.5 (Excellent), 60 is 4 (Very good), 45 is 3.5 (Good), below 45 is 3 (Average). We did not inspect installations, collect customer quotes or test customer service.
Delaware solar company FAQs
How do I check a Delaware solar installer?
Search the company in the Department of Labor contractor registry and the Division of Revenue business license search, and match the name to your contract. Delaware licenses electricians as individuals, so ask for the master electrician who will connect your system and check that license with the Division of Professional Regulation.
Does Delaware have net metering?
Yes, with every utility, under 26 Del. C. § 1014. Extra power is credited in kWh against later bills for home systems up to 25 kW. Unused credits now carry into the next year by law, and utilities have until December 1, 2026 to update their billing. Delmarva’s own tariff still forfeited leftover credits when we read it on October 16, 2026.
How much is the Delaware solar grant?
For Delmarva Power customers it is $0.80 per watt, up to $10,000 and never more than 50% of the project cost. Delaware Electric Cooperative members get $0.70 per watt, up to $5,000. Both grants take all of your system’s SRECs, and you need approval before the panels go up.
Can I get the grant with a lease or PPA?
No. The Delmarva Power program lists no incentive for leased or PPA systems, and the co-op grant is for systems the customer owns. The third-party owner can still claim the federal 48E credit, so ask who keeps the grant, the SRECs and the savings before you sign.
Will the companies on this page contact me?
Not because they appear here. This page is an editorial comparison. If you request quotes, the providers that serve your area may contact you. They can include installers, marketplaces and lead exchanges. Our page on how we make money explains how EcoGen is paid.
