The Second Income Stream, Sized for Your Roof
Net metering lowers your bill. SREC-II pays you separately, in cash, every quarter for 15 years. Every 1,000 kWh your system generates earns one certificate, and the rate is fixed on the date your system is registered rather than the date you sign. That is why registration timing is a financial decision in New Jersey and paperwork almost everywhere else.
System Size | Est. Annual Production | SREC-II Certificates / Year | Income at $76.50 | 15-Year Locked Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
5 kW | ~5,900 kWh | 5.6 | $428 | $6,425 |
8 kW (typical) | ~9,300 kWh | 9.0 | $689 | $10,330 |
12 kW | ~14,000 kWh | 13.5 | $1,033 | $15,490 |
Read that last column against the system cost table below. In New Jersey the certificates alone typically return between a quarter and a third of the gross system price over the term, before a single kilowatt-hour of bill savings is counted.
