Is Virtue Solar a good choice?

Virtue Solar fits Central Virginia homeowners who want a local Class A contractor and clear warranty terms. It says it has installed solar in Virginia since 2015. Every project gets a 10-year workmanship warranty, and an optional Solar Insure 30-year warranty covers parts, labor and roof penetrations near mounts. It also offers $0-down third-party ownership. Ask whether Solar Insure is included in your price and get the TPO escalator in writing.

Why choose Virtue Solar, and why you might not

What Virtue does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Virtue

  • Its warranty terms are clearVirtue covers its own work on every job for 10 years. You can add Solar Insure, a 30-year warranty on parts, labor and leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. It also covers batteries.

  • Its no-money-down plan is spelled outWith this plan, another company owns the panels and you pay a set rate for the power, for up to 25 years. The rate can rise 0% to 2.99% a year. Upkeep is included, and you can buy the system after 5 years.

  • Owners praise its follow-upIts head-office Google listing shows 5 from 82 reviews. Owners praise frequent updates, help with permits and getting turned on by the power company, and quick fixes. One says Virtue took over a system after the first installer went bankrupt.

  • It names its inverters and batteriesVirtue names Enphase inverters for roofs and Fronius or SMA for ground systems. It puts in Enphase and FranklinWH batteries.

Reasons to look at others

  • The 30-year warranty is an add-onSolar Insure is optional. Without it, the panels have only the maker’s warranty, and leak cover is not listed. Ask if Solar Insure is in your price, and get it in writing.

  • It prints no license numberVirtue says it is a licensed Virginia Class A contractor, but it prints no number. Ask for it and check it with the state before you sign.

  • It names no panel brand or lenderVirtue names no panel brand. It does not name its lender or the company that owns panels under its no-money-down plan. Ask for all three in writing.

  • Its reviews do not show how it handles problemsWe found no negative reviews among those we read. That does not tell you how it handles problems. Ask what a service visit costs after the warranty ends.

Virtue Solar reviews: what customers say

Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.

The five positive reviews below praise frequent communication, help with permits and utility hookup, a check-in visit five months later, a next-day fix for a monitoring connection and a repair that explained a high summer bill. One owner says Virtue took over a system after the original installer went bankrupt. There were no negative reviews among the reviews we read. Positive reviews alone do not show how a company handles problems. Ask Virtue Solar what service visits cost after the warranty period.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (82 reviews read, back to Jul 3, 2016). We found no Trustpilot page for Virtue Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Virtue Solar cost?

Virtue Solar does not publish a price for your home; its residential page gives general ranges by system size. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, for a loan or TPO agreement, the rate, escalator, term and buyout terms. Virtue itself advises asking for the cash price and the financed price side by side, and says its loans carry no dealer fees. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

Cash purchase

You own it

The company says cash gives the largest lifetime savings.

Solar loan

You own it

Virtue says it offers loans with no dealer fees. The lender is not named.

TPO (third-party ownership)

A third-party owner owns it

$0 upfront; you pay a set rate per kilowatt-hour with an escalator of 0% to 2.99%, per the company, for up to 25 years. Maintenance and a production guarantee are included; buyout is available after 5 years.

Plans as listed on Virtue Solar’s residential page and TPO financing page, read October 13, 2026.

Virtue Solar’s residential page says it strongly recommends Enphase microinverters for roofs and Fronius or SMA string inverters for ground mounts, and that it installs Enphase IQ and FranklinWH batteries. It names no panel brand. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Where does Virtue Solar operate, and which licenses were checked?

Virtue Solar’s service areas page and site footer say it serves Central Virginia, naming Charlottesville, Culpeper, Greene County, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Louisa, Lynchburg, Madison County, Orange, Short Pump, Richmond, Roanoke, Staunton, Warrenton and Waynesboro, plus area pages for the Piedmont, Shenandoah Valley and Greater Virginia (read October 13, 2026). Licenses

We have not checked Virtue’s licenses in a state registry yet, and its website does not list license numbers we could match. Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.
