Why choose Convert Solar, and why you might not

What Convert Solar does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Convert Solar

  • It does your roof tooConvert Solar puts in solar and batteries and also does roof work. Of the three alternatives below, only Lumina also does roofing.

  • It is a Virginia companyConvert Solar is based in Virginia Beach and says it started in 2012. It names cities across Virginia, from Norfolk to Richmond and Lynchburg. It says it keeps service in-house.

  • It names some equipment brandsConvert Solar features the Tesla Powerwall 3 battery and names FranklinWH as a partner. It uses IronRidge racks to hold the panels. Lumina names no brands at all.

  • Owners praise its updates and paperworkIts head-office Google listing shows 4.8 from 856 reviews. Its good reviews praise steady updates and permits and power company paperwork handled on time.

Reasons to look at others

  • Its warranty promises do not matchIts FAQ lists 10 years of free labor on its own work. Its homepage promises a 25-year “bumper-to-bumper” warranty. It lists no warranty for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Ask what each covers, in writing.

  • It does not name its lenderConvert Solar offers its own financing from $0 down, but names no lender and no terms. It says you can rent the panels, with no terms listed. Ask who you will pay and who owns the panels.

  • It shows no license numberConvert Solar says it holds a Virginia solar contractor license, but prints no number. Ask for the number and check it with the state before you sign.

  • Some owners did not know their system was downIts negative reviews describe six weeks of calls to fix an error code and two outages nobody noticed for months. Ask who watches your system and how it will tell you if it stops working.

Convert Solar reviews: what customers say

Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.

The five positive reviews below praise steady updates from survey to approval, quick, polite service and utility and county paperwork handled on schedule. The five negative reviews describe six weeks of calls to fix an error code, two outages that went unnoticed for months, a repair blamed on squirrel damage that another installer says was one bad part, and unanswered installation complaints. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Convert Solar who watches system monitoring and how it tells you about outages.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (200 reviews read, back to Apr 29, 2025). We found no Trustpilot page for Convert Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Convert Solar cost?

Convert Solar does not publish a system price on the pages we reviewed. Its FAQ says the site assessment details total system cost and a financial analysis. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, if you finance, the financed total with APR and fees. Some of its pages still describe a federal tax credit that has ended for homeowner-owned systems, so do not count on it. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

Purchase

You own it

You pay the full price. The company says it explains ownership and service duties for each path.

Financing ($0 down)

You own it

The company says it offers in-house financing starting at $0 down. The lender and terms are not named.

Lease

Ask who owns it

Its about page says purchasing and leasing are both options, with no lease terms listed. Ask who owns the system and who services it.

Plans as described on Convert Solar’s residential page, battery page and about page, read October 13, 2026. No PPA is listed.

Convert Solar says it installs “a large variety of Tier 1 panels” on IronRidge racking with module-level inverter electronics and panel-level monitoring (residential page). Its battery page features the Tesla Powerwall 3 and names FranklinWH as a partner. Partner logos on its homepage include Enphase, Silfab, FranklinWH and Generac. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Company-published terms from Convert Solar’s homepage, FAQ, maintenance and warranty page and battery page, read October 13, 2026. Your signed agreement decides what applies.

Its maintenance page is headed “Zero Cost 25 Year Warranty” but the text gives free diagnosis and service for ten years; its separate roofing business advertises a GAF lifetime shingle warranty, which is roofing coverage, not solar workmanship coverage.

Where does Convert Solar operate, and which licenses were checked?

Convert Solar’s homepage lists solar installation across Virginia, naming Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News, Richmond, Charlottesville and Lynchburg (read October 13, 2026). A listed city does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with Convert Solar there.

Licenses

We have not checked Convert Solar’s licenses in a state registry yet, and its website does not list license numbers we could match. Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.
