King Solar Review

Residential and commercial solar and battery installerBased in Hutchinson, KansasProfile updated October 14, 2026

Is King Solar a good choice?

King Solar fits Kansas homeowners and businesses who want a long-established local installer for rooftop, ground-mount or battery systems. The company says it has guided Kansas customers since 1982, and its commercial page says it designs and installs in house with no subcontractors. Its small website publishes no warranty terms, payment plans, equipment brands or license numbers. Ask for all of these in writing, along with a list of recent local installs, before you sign.

Why choose King Solar, and why you might not

What King Solar does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose King Solar

  • It has helped Kansas customers since 1982King Solar says it has guided Kansas customers since 1982. Cromwell says it has put in solar since the 1980s. Ask when King itself began installing solar.

  • Its own team does the workIts business page says King Solar designs and installs systems itself, with no outside crews. Ask if the same is true for homes.

  • Owners praise clear, simple answersIts head-office Google listing shows 4.9 from 65 reviews. Owners praise staff who explain things simply, crews who show up on time, and quick help adding batteries and fixing an inverter under warranty.

  • It does roofs, yards and batteriesKing Solar puts panels on roofs or on frames in your yard, and adds batteries. It also looks after systems already in place.

Reasons to look at others

  • It lists no warranty at allKing Solar publishes no warranty on the panels, on its own work, or for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Barkley lists 10 years for roof leaks. Get every warranty in writing.

  • It does not say how you can payIts site lists no way to pay: no purchase, loan, rent or PPA plan. Barkley and Cromwell both list a loan and renting. Ask which plans King offers and who would own the panels.

  • It names no equipment brandsKing Solar names no panel, inverter or battery brands. All three alternatives below name the battery brands they use. Ask for the exact models in your written quote.

  • We could not confirm its licensesWe found no Kansas state license for the company, and its site prints none. We found no negative reviews either, which does not show how it handles problems. Ask about licenses and service calls.

King Solar reviews: what customers say

Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.

The five positive reviews below praise friendly, knowledgeable staff who explain the process simply, punctual and professional crews, a price one reviewer says was well below other quotes, and quick help with added batteries and an inverter warranty repair. There were no negative reviews among the reviews we read. Positive reviews alone do not show how a company handles problems. Ask King Solar who handles equipment warranty claims after installation.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (65 reviews read, back to Sep 5, 2017). We found no Trustpilot page for King Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does King Solar cost?

King Solar does not publish a system price on its website. It offers a free consultation and solar assessment. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, if you finance, the financed total with APR and fees. Its homepage still mentions federal tax credits for homeowners; that credit ended for homeowner-owned systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

King Solar’s website lists no payment plans (read October 13, 2026). Ask whether it offers cash only or works with a lender.

King Solar says it installs rooftop panels, ground mounts and battery storage “built with top-tier, warrantied components,” but names no brands on its website. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh). The company says it also maintains existing systems.

Where does King Solar operate, and which licenses were checked?

King Solar’s homepage addresses “Kansas homeowners” and businesses “across Kansas” but lists no towns or counties (read October 13, 2026). Its office is in Hutchinson, its commercial page says it is based in nearby Yoder (read October 14, 2026), and its phone number has a Wichita-area code. A listed state does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with King Solar there.

Licenses

Kansas licenses this work through individuals or local permits, not a company license; ask for the license holder’s number. Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.

    Note
Kansas has no state-level contractor or electrical license. The 2026 Supplemental Note on HB 2588 (kslegislature.gov) says the bill ‘would transfer occupational licensing authority for electricians to the State Fire Marshal … from cities and counties’; the bill died (kslegislature.gov/li/b2025_26/measures/hb2588/), so licensing stays with cities and counties. No state registry to search for King Solar, Inc. (Hutchinson); local license not checked.

King Solar’s residential page says it has NABCEP certified installers. This is a company statement; we did not verify it.

King Solar compared with three other installers

All five Kansas alternatives share King Solar’s only state. We chose Barkley, based nearby in Wichita, plus Cromwell and Good Energy, two other long-running Kansas installers that put in batteries. Every fact comes from the company profiles linked below.

How we researched this profile

We read King Solar’s own pages on October 13, 2026: homepage and contact page. On October 14, 2026 we read the rest of its sitemap (residential, commercial and consulting pages), its Google Business listing and an OpenCorporates summary of its Kansas business record; none added payment, warranty or equipment terms. We did not check any license in a registry. We did not buy a system, request a quote, visit an office or interview customers. King Solar did not review this page.

Our installer methodology explains what we check.
