Hawaii Energy Connection Review

Solar and battery installer (residential brand: KumuKit)Based in Aiea, HawaiiProfile updated October 13, 2026

Is Hawaii Energy Connection a good choice?

Hawaii Energy Connection fits Oahu homeowners who want to own a packaged solar-plus-battery system from a local installer. It sells homes its KumuKit system and publishes a 25-year panel warranty, 10 to 25 years on inverters and a 10-year workmanship warranty. Parts of its websites are dated (copyright 2020, 2023 and 2024 events), so confirm current battery models, financing and warranty documents before you sign.

Why choose Hawaii Energy Connection, and why you might not

What Hawaii Energy Connection does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Hawaii Energy Connection

  • It covers its own work for 10 yearsHawaii Energy Connection lists a 10-year warranty on its own work. It also lists 25 years on panels and 10 to 25 years on inverters. Of the three alternatives below, only AEI lists a 10-year term too.

  • A battery comes with every new systemIts home system, called KumuKit, comes with a battery. It suggests Qcells panels. RevoluSun also says a battery is standard on every system.

  • It fixes systems it did not put inHawaii Energy Connection says it services systems other companies installed. Its good reviews praise technicians who call back quickly and fix problems fast.

  • We found an active Hawaii licenseWe found an active Hawaii license for the company when we checked on October 13, 2026. You can check it with the state before you sign.

Reasons to look at others

  • You cannot rent the panelsHawaii Energy Connection sells only to owners: you pay upfront or take a loan. It does not name its lender. RevoluSun offers a PPA (you pay for the power; the company owns the panels).

  • No roof leak or battery warranty listedIt lists no warranty for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof, and no battery warranty. Ask who fixes a leak, who pays, and for how long.

  • Parts of its websites are out of dateSome of its pages show a 2020 copyright and events from 2023 and 2024. Ask for the current battery model, loan terms and warranty papers before you sign.

  • Some owners waited months for repairsIts negative reviews describe half a system down for three months and another off for six months. They also mention missed visits and unanswered calls. Ask who handles repairs and how fast.

Hawaii Energy Connection reviews: what customers say

Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.

The five positive reviews below praise professional technicians who return calls promptly and fix problems quickly, and clear help with design, permits and the monitoring app. The five negative reviews describe half a system down for three months, a system offline for six months with missed technician visits, unanswered calls, an unresolved damaged gutter and utility paperwork the reviewer says kept being returned. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Hawaii Energy Connection who handles service calls and how quickly.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (81 reviews read, back to Sep 27, 2016). We found no Trustpilot page for Hawaii Energy Connection on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Hawaii Energy Connection cost?

Hawaii Energy Connection does not publish a system price on its KumuKit pages. It offers a free quote and says it sizes each system with its own software. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, panel, inverter and battery models and, for a loan, the financed total with APR and fees. Its pages still mention tax credits for owners; the federal credit ended for homeowner-owned systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

Purchase

You own it

The company recommends owning the system and argues against residential leases and PPAs.

Solar loan

You own it

It mentions “easy financing options” and a loan payment; the lender is not named.

Plans as described on the KumuKit benefits page, read October 13, 2026. Its commercial overview also lists PPA and feed-in tariff options for business customers only.

Hawaii Energy Connection says it suggests Q CELLS panels with micro-inverters (benefits page) and that all new KumuKit systems include smart batteries (battery page). Its support library covers Enphase, FranklinWH and Generac PWRcell equipment. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh). It also services systems it did not install.

Company-published terms from the KumuKit benefits page, read October 13, 2026. Your signed agreement decides what applies.

Its support page says repairs are done by the same teams that installed the system and that it quotes costs first when a problem falls outside the warranty period.

Where does Hawaii Energy Connection operate, and which licenses were checked?

Hawaii Energy Connection’s KumuKit site presents it as an Oahu solar company and its job ads require Oahu residents; its commercial overview says it has provided solar for all islands (read October 13, 2026). It names no specific towns. A listed state does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with Hawaii Energy Connection there.

Licenses

We found 1 active license record in state registries (October 13, 2026). Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.

How we researched this profile

We read Hawaii Energy Connection’s own pages on October 13, 2026: its homepage and commercial overview, and its KumuKit residential pages (home, benefits, solar, battery storage, support and contact). We did not check its license in a state registry. On October 14, 2026 we also checked its Google Business listing, which shows the same Aiea address, links to the KumuKit site and is not marked closed; its own sites were behind a bot check that day, and the Hawaii business registry was too. We did not buy a system, request a quote, visit an office or interview customers. Hawaii Energy Connection did not review this page.

Our installer methodology explains what we check.
