Is Positive Energy Solar a good choice?

Positive Energy Solar fits New Mexico homeowners who want an employee-owned local installer with long written coverage. Its homepage says it has operated since 1997, and its warranty page lists a 30-year SolarInsure-backed limited warranty covering panels, inverters, roof penetrations and labor. It publishes no battery term and no license number, so ask for both in writing.

Why choose Positive Energy Solar, and why you might not

What Positive Energy does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Positive Energy

  • Its warranty is long and covers roof leaksPositive Energy lists a 30-year warranty on the panels, inverters, its own work, and leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. An outside company, SolarInsure, backs it. No alternative below lists cover for those leaks.

  • It has worked since 1997Its homepage says it has worked since 1997. It says its employees own the company, and it has a full-time service team.

  • It has a prepaid planYou can buy, take a loan with no money down, or prepay five years of rent with its Positive Path plan. From year 6, you can buy the system or keep renting at a fixed monthly rate.

  • Owners praise no-pressure salesIts Albuquerque Google listing shows 4.9 from 173 reviews. Owners praise patient sales staff, quick repair visits and a panel replaced within two weeks.

Reasons to look at others

  • It shows no license numberPositive Energy does not print its New Mexico license number. Sol Luna does. Ask for the number and check it with the state before you sign.

  • No battery warranty listedIt sells Tesla Powerwall, Enphase and Sigenergy batteries but lists no battery warranty. It also names no inverter brand. Ask for both in writing.

  • Moving panels for roof work costs extraNegative reviews describe a $750 charge to move panels for a roof repair, later reduced. Another describes a costly quote to upgrade the device that tracks your power. Ask what each costs before you sign.

  • Some owners report pushy door knockersOne negative review describes salespeople who kept ringing the doorbell. Ask for a written quote and take time to compare it with others.

The five positive reviews below praise patient, no-pressure sales, quick troubleshooting visits and a panel replaced under warranty within two weeks. The three negative reviews describe door-to-door salespeople who kept ringing the bell, a $750 charge to move panels for a roof repair, later reduced, and a costly monitoring upgrade quote followed by a closed ticket. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Positive Energy what it charges to move panels for roof work.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (173 reviews read, back to Feb 7, 2017). We found no Trustpilot page for Positive Energy Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Positive Energy Solar cost?

Positive Energy does not publish a system price on its financing page. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, if you finance or lease, the financed total or prepaid lease amount with all fees. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

Cash purchase

You own it

You pay the full price and own the system right away.

Signature solar loan

You own it

A $0-down loan with no lien on the home, per the company; it names Nusenda Credit Union and Homewise as lending partners. The lender sets the terms.

Positive Path prepaid lease

Positive Energy owns it

One upfront payment covers the first five years; from year 6 you can buy the system at fair market value or keep leasing at a fixed monthly rate with no escalator up to year 15. The company says it installs, monitors and maintains the system and guarantees production during the first five years.

Plans as listed on Positive Energy’s financing page and prepaid lease page, read October 14, 2026. No PPA is listed.

Its solar panels page names JA Solar, Qcells (Q.TRON) and Mission Solar panels, and its backup power page says it is a Tesla Powerwall certified installer and also offers Enphase IQ and Sigenergy batteries. No inverter brand is named on the pages we read. It also installs EV chargers and has a full-time service team. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Where does Positive Energy Solar operate, and which licenses were checked?

Positive Energy’s service areas page (read October 14, 2026) lists offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe and says its residential team serves within about two hours of those offices, naming Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Sandia Park, Corrales, Los Lunas, Española and South Valley, among others. It says its commercial team works across New Mexico. A listed area does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with Positive Energy there.
