Why choose OnSite Energy, and why you might not
What OnSite Energy does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.
Reasons to choose OnSite Energy
Its own staff do the workOnSite Energy says its installers work for the company and that it has its own electricians. It says it was founded in 2012 and has done over 800 projects. We did not check these claims.
It can add a battery to your systemOnSite Energy says it can add a battery to a solar system, even one another company put in. That can help if you already have panels.
It has two offices in MontanaOnSite Energy works from Bozeman and Missoula. Of the two alternatives below, neither is based in Montana. Ask if it works at your address.
Reasons to look at others
It lists no warranty at allOnSite Energy publishes no warranty on the panels, on its own work, or for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Big Dog lists 10 years for both if you buy. Get every warranty in writing.
It does not say how you can payOnSite Energy says it has several ways to pay but does not list them. Ask which plans it offers, and who owns the panels under each one.
It names no standard equipment brandsIts service pages name no panel, inverter or battery brand. One past project used Qcells panels and a SolarEdge inverter. Ask for the exact models in your written quote.
We could not check its license or reviewsOnSite Energy does not print a Montana license number, and we found no Google listing for it. Ask for its license number and for names of past customers you can call.
OnSite Energy reviews: what customers say
We found no Google or Trustpilot reviews for OnSite Energy when we checked in October 2026. Ask the company for references from recent customers in your area.
How much does OnSite Energy cost?
OnSite Energy does not publish a system price on the pages we reviewed. It offers a free custom quote and site assessment. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, if you finance, the financed total with APR and fees. Its residential FAQ still mentions the 30% federal tax credit; that credit ended for homeowner-owned systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.
Payment options (not named)
Ask who owns itThe company says it offers “multiple flexible payment options” but does not list them. Ask which plans exist and who owns the system under each.
Payment options as described on OnSite Energy’s homepage, read October 13, 2026. No loan, lease or PPA is named.
OnSite Energy does not name standard panel, inverter or battery brands on its service pages. One project page lists Hanwha Q CELLS panels and a SolarEdge inverter with power optimizers, but that is a single past project. Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh). The company says it can add batteries to systems installed by others.
What does OnSite Energy’s warranty cover?
Coverage | What OnSite Energy publishes | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
Solar panels | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: the panel maker and its product warranty term. |
Panel output | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: the output guarantee and its term. |
Inverter | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: the inverter model, its maker’s term and who pays labor to replace it. |
Battery | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: the battery maker’s term and who services it. |
Labor and workmanship | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: the workmanship warranty term and what it covers. |
Roof penetrations | Not published | Confirm in your proposal: who repairs and pays if a leak starts at a panel mount. |
OnSite Energy has no warranty page. We read its residential page, energy storage page and homepage on October 13, 2026. Your signed agreement decides what applies.
A past project page lists “25 Year Power Warranty, 12 Year Manufacturer Warranty” for the panels used on that job; those are panel maker terms for one install, not a company workmanship warranty.
Where does OnSite Energy operate, and which licenses were checked?
OnSite Energy’s contact page says it works from Bozeman and Missoula and serves homeowners and businesses across Montana (read October 13, 2026). It lists no other towns or counties. A listed state does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with OnSite Energy there.

Licenses
We have not checked OnSite Energy’s licenses in a state registry yet, and its website does not list license numbers we could match. Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.
