Is Holsen Solar a good choice?

Holsen Solar fits homeowners and farms in the Fargo-Moorhead area, Eastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota who want a small electrical contractor doing its own installs. It says it was founded in Fargo in 2018, uses no subcontractors and prints its ND and MN license numbers. It names Q Cells, Enphase and SolarEdge on its solar page, but gives no warranty term for its labor and materials warranty. Get that term in writing.

Why choose Holsen Solar, and why you might not

What Holsen does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Holsen

  • It names its equipment brandsHolsen names Q Cells panels, Enphase and SolarEdge inverters, and Tesla Powerwall, Franklin and EG4 batteries. Lightspring names no panel or inverter brand. You can look up the equipment before a sales visit.

  • It is an electrician tooHolsen is an electrical contractor. It also puts in EV chargers, lighting and smart electrical panels. Of the three alternatives below, Wolf River also does electrical work.

  • Its own crew does the workHolsen says it was founded in Fargo in 2018 and uses no subcontractors. It prints its North Dakota and Minnesota license numbers, so you can check them.

  • It builds on the ground tooHolsen builds systems on roofs, on the ground, on poles, and on mounts that follow the sun. That can suit farms and large lots.

Reasons to look at others

  • Its warranty on its own work has no lengthHolsen says it covers its own labor and materials, but gives no length. It lists no warranty for leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Wolf River lists 25 years for both. Ask Holsen for its terms in writing.

  • It does not name its lenderHolsen offers loans through partners it does not name. It does not list renting the panels or a PPA. Ask who the lender is and what you would pay each month.

  • It has few Google reviewsIts head-office Google listing shows 4.1 from 11 reviews. One negative review describes waiting more than six months for an itemized quote. Ask how fast Holsen sends written quotes.

The four positive reviews below praise a 40 kW solar field producing as hoped, an EV charger installed within a day, a system running over a year with no issues and clear answers to questions. The one negative review describes waiting more than six months for an itemized estimate and then getting no reply. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Holsen Solar how quickly it sends written, itemized quotes.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (11 reviews read, back to Aug 23, 2023). We found no Trustpilot page for Holsen Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Holsen Solar cost?

Holsen Solar does not publish a system price; its solar page shows only an illustrative savings calculator and loan example. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, if you finance, the lender, APR, fees and financed total. The company says “the quote is the price” with no hidden fees. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.
