Is Boston Solar a good choice?

Boston Solar fits Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire homeowners who want a long-running local installer. It says it has worked since 2011 with in-house crews, installs Enphase inverters, and adds a 10-year production guarantee. Its warranty pages do not agree: one says 25 years on panels and inverters with 10 years of workmanship, another says 30 years covering parts, labor and roof attachments (FAQ). Get the exact terms in writing.

Why choose Boston Solar, and why you might not

What Boston Solar does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Boston Solar

  • It names its panels and invertersBoston Solar names Qcells and REC panels and Enphase inverters, the boxes that turn solar power into home power. None of the three alternatives below names a standard panel brand. You can look up the equipment before you sign.

  • It promises how much power you will makeBoston Solar guarantees at least 90% of the power it expects your system to make, for 10 years. It checks every two years. None of the three alternatives below lists a promise like this.

  • You can buy, borrow or rentYou can buy the panels, take a loan, or rent them for 20 years through LightReach. Boston Solar says renters can buy the panels after five years.

  • Many owners have reviewed itIts head-office Google listing shows 4.7 from 1,360 reviews. Owners praise helpful salespeople and neat, polite install crews. It also puts in FranklinWH, Tesla and Enphase batteries.

Reasons to look at others

  • Its warranty pages do not agreeOne page lists 10 years on its own work. Another says 30 years, including leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Ask which warranty is in your contract, in writing.

  • A PPA may not be open to homesIts payment page offers a PPA (you pay for the power; the company owns the panels). Its FAQ says PPAs are only for businesses. Ask if you can get one.

  • We found no New Hampshire licenseBoston Solar says it serves southern New Hampshire, but our search found no license there on October 13, 2026. It does not list which towns it serves. Ask for its New Hampshire license before you sign.

  • Some owners waited months for repairsIts negative reviews describe warranty repairs that dragged on for months, workers who did not show up, and a failed city inspection over wiring. Ask who handles repairs and how fast.

The five positive reviews below praise helpful sales reps, neat, polite install crews and smooth installations. The five negative reviews describe a failed city inspection over wiring, three warranty repairs that reviewers say dragged on for months, no-show appointments in three reviews, and a subcontracted install that left a damaged outlet cover. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Boston Solar who handles warranty service and how quickly technicians are scheduled.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (200 reviews read, back to Sep 25, 2023). We found no Trustpilot page for Boston Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Boston Solar cost?

Boston Solar does not publish a system price; its FAQ says each system starts with a custom quote. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, panel and inverter models and, if you finance, the financed total with APR and fees. Its payment page lists a cash payment schedule of 30% at signing, 60% at installation and 10% at startup. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.

Your written proposal should list the exact panel, inverter and battery models, the system size in kilowatts (kW) and the forecast yearly production in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

Where does Boston Solar operate, and which licenses were checked?

Boston Solar’s service area page lists Massachusetts towns by name, with the utility for each, and its about page says it has expanded to southern New Hampshire (read October 13, 2026). Some towns on municipal utilities are marked “contact utility.” A listed town does not mean every address qualifies or that EcoGen can connect you with Boston Solar there.

Licenses

We found 2 active license records in state registries (October 13, 2026). We found no record under its name in New Hampshire; ask for the license number. Check the license yourself under the exact business name on your contract. A license check confirms registration, not workmanship quality.

How we researched this profile

We read Boston Solar’s own pages on October 13, 2026: homepage, about, residential products, residential financing, residential FAQ, battery, service area and press releases. We did not check its licenses in a state registry. On October 14, 2026 we also checked its Google Business listing, which shows the same Woburn address; its own site was behind a bot check that day. We did not buy a system, request a quote, visit an office or interview customers. Boston Solar did not review this page.

Our installer methodology explains what we check.
