Is Green Mountain Solar a good choice?

Green Mountain Solar fits Vermont homeowners who want solar, batteries and heat pumps from one local installer. It says it was founded in 2017 and serves the whole state from South Burlington and East Dorset. It advertises a 12-year workmanship guarantee and names its panel, inverter and battery models. Its site lists one lender, EastRise Credit Union, so compare loan terms and ask what the 12-year guarantee covers, including roof leaks.

Why choose Green Mountain Solar, and why you might not

What Green Mountain Solar does well, and where to be careful, compared with the installers it competes with most.

Reasons to choose Green Mountain Solar

  • It names its exact panelsGreen Mountain Solar names JA Solar and Hyundai panels, Enphase IQ8 inverters, and Enphase, FranklinWH and Tesla batteries. None of the three alternatives below names a panel brand. You can look up the equipment before a sales visit.

  • It has the highest Google score hereIts head-office Google listing shows 5 from 337 reviews. That is the highest score and the most reviews in the table below. Owners praise on-time, friendly crews and quick installs.

  • It works across all of VermontGreen Mountain Solar says it serves the whole state from South Burlington and an office in East Dorset. It can also put in heat pumps along with solar and batteries.

  • It can add a battery through your power companyIf Green Mountain Power is your power company, it can put in a Tesla Powerwall through the power company’s battery program. You pay upfront or rent it. This covers the battery only, not the panels.

Reasons to look at others

  • Its work warranty is shorter than Catamount’sGreen Mountain Solar covers its own work for 12 years. Catamount lists 15. It does not say what the 12 years cover, or whether they cover leaks where the panels are bolted to the roof. Ask for the terms in writing.

  • It lists no inverter or battery warrantyThe panel makers’ warranties are listed, but Green Mountain Solar gives no term for the inverter or the battery. Ask for both in writing.

  • It names only one lenderIts site lists one loan, through EastRise Credit Union. It lists no way to rent the panels. Ask for the loan rate, length and fees, and compare them with other lenders.

  • It shows no electrical license numberWe found its Vermont contractor registration active. Its site shows no electrical license number. Ask which licensed electrician will do your job.

Green Mountain Solar reviews: what customers say

Each review site shows its own score; we read them on October 12 and 13, 2026 and do not combine them or add our own rating.

  • Google5 / 5337 reviews · South Burlington, VT office listing only, not company-wideRead reviews

The five positive reviews below praise timely, friendly crews, fair prices, quick installs and help with the monitoring app, and one owner is happy with a combined solar and heat pump design. The one negative review does not describe a problem with the company; it asks how long panels last and what happens to them at end of life. These are issues to ask about, not a measure of how often they happen. Ask Green Mountain Solar how long the panels should last and how old panels are recycled.

How we picked these: the five newest 5-star and the five newest 1- or 2-star reviews with written text on Google and Trustpilot, as of October 2026 (200 reviews read, back to Jun 7, 2023). We found no Trustpilot page for Green Mountain Solar on October 12, 2026. Each quote is one sentence, word for word. Picking the highest and lowest ratings shows the range of experiences; it is not a representative sample, and we did not verify what reviewers describe.

How much does Green Mountain Solar cost?

Green Mountain Solar does not publish a solar system price; its process page says its proposal lists the equipment and services after a site evaluation. Ask for an itemized quote showing the cash price, system size, equipment models and, for a loan, the APR, fees and financed total. Its battery page shows a Green Mountain Power battery program with fixed fees; that is a utility program, not a solar price. For state price ranges, see our solar panel cost guide; for how the plans compare, see loans, leases and PPAs.
