April 7, 2017 – Google’s Project Sunroof Says 4 out of 5 US Homes Have Solar Potential
Google recently announced that its proprietary solar potential estimation tool, known as Project Sunroof, is now providing data for home’s in all 50 US States. Project Sunroof is a tool that estimates the solar potential of specific homes throughout the United States by using a combination of technology including Google Maps, Google EARTH and 3D modelling.
Google also announced that, based on data from Project Sunroof, about 4 out of 5 homes in the US have potential for solar power at the moment.

February 27, 2017 – National Solar Jobs Census Shows Major Growth In PA Solar Industry
The number of jobs in the solar industry in Pennsylvania has increased by approximately 23% since 2015, according to the National Solar Jobs Census. The new report from The Solar Foundation showed that there were 2,498 solar jobs in Pennsylvania at the end of 2015, but that number grew to at total of 3,061 jobs over 2016.
Furthermore, employers in the solar industry expect the national industry to increase by at least 10% by the end of 2017.
January 18, 2017 – PECO Energy Co. Gives $10,000 Solar Equipment Grant to Community College of Philadelphia
PECO Energy Co. recently awarded the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) with a $10,000 grant for equipment to improve the study of solar energy analysis and energy‐saving strategies.
According to reports, the college said that the grant money will be used to fund the equipment for 150 students each semester. Specifically, the grant will provide the Community College of Philadelphia with state‐of‐the‐art solar energy-analysis equipment for the Architecture, Interior Design, and Building Science associate’s degree programs.
“As there is a rising demand for STEM expertise in the workforce, increasing the available resources for institutions of higher education has become critically important,” said Craig Adams, president and CEO of PECO.
December 7, 2016 – Pennsylvania Reopens $30 Million Solar Energy Loan Program For Applications
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf recently announced that the state’s solar energy loan program is once again open for applications. The program offers more than $30 million dollars in loans to promote the use of solar energy in the State of Pennsylvania.
“The Solar Energy Program provides loans for an array of solar projects, including facilities to generate, distribute or store solar energy; manufacturing or assembly facilities for solar panels and other solar equipment; and the development or construction of facilities for the research and development of solar energy-related technology,” Wolf said in a statement. “These types of projects not only harness Pennsylvania’s solar resources to help accommodate the commonwealth’s energy needs but stimulate the economy and create jobs.”
